Super Swede-serien har fått sitt navn fra en artikkel i musikerbladet "International Musician and Recording World". I november 1978 testet bladet nemlig en av de første gitarene fra serien, som da fremdeles gikk under navnet Swede Deluxe. Skribenten var så imponert av gitaren at han helt enkelt "døpte" den om til Super Swede og Hagström plukket kjapt opp navnet. Alle egenskapene av høy kvalitet fra originalserien finnes hos de nyproduserte Super Swede-gitarene som har kropp i utskjært mahogni med lønnetopp, hals i mahogni og gripebrett i Diamondwood-Ebony med 22 bånd og 25-1/2" mensur.

The designers have taken the classic Super Swede, and appointed it with stark, yet elegant cosmetics to carry on the proud tradition of their three royal forefathers.

A mahogany body topped with a thick maple cap is joined to a mahogany neck using Hagstrom’s classic mortise and long-tenon neck joint, and featuring our H-Expander™ truss-rod and Resinator™ fingerboard. The result is a voice that combines all of the sustain, clarity and attack Hagstrom is known for. The Dark King theme continues with a complement of black nickel hardware built to Hagstrom’s highest standards: 18:1 ratio tuning machines, the unique Sustain-Block™ tailpiece, and a perfectly matched tune-o-matic bridge.

Once again, Hagstrom have chosen to work with the great Swedish pickup designer, Johan Lundgren, a legacy started with the King’s ancestry. Lundgren’s AlNiCo-5 pickup occupies the bridge position and his AlNiCo-2 design takes the neck position, a perfect choice for expressiveness, dynamism and versatility. The model feature an individual coil split using push/pull tone controls and Hagstrom’s standard R/C circuit on the volume control.
